LAS VEGAS - A Mexican national with three prior deportations and felony convictions for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States, the Department of Justice announced.

U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware imposed the sentence on Miguel Antonio Murillo-Ramos, followed by three years of supervised release. After serving his prison term, Murillo-Ramos will be deported to Mexico for a fourth time.

According to court documents, Murillo-Ramos was found in the United States on April 29, 2024, after having been deported to Mexico on three prior occasions: Jan. 17, 2015, April 10, 2019, and Nov. 1, 2023. His most recent deportation preceded his discovery in the country by fewer than six months.

Murillo-Ramos had two prior federal convictions for illegal reentry after deportation, from 2017 and 2020, both out of the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. He also carried felony convictions for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon from the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States.

First Assistant United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Acting Field Office Director Alejandro Almeida announced the case. The ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office investigated, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada prosecuted.

The DOJ designated the case as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that “marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”

Murillo-Ramos faces deportation to Mexico upon completion of his 51-month sentence. Under 8 U.S.C. § 1326, illegal reentry after removal by an individual with an aggravated felony record can carry penalties of up to 20 years in federal prison.
